Henry Morrison Flagler Museum (Whitehall)

Our first stop of the day was Whitehall, the winter home of Henry Flagler, a leading figure of America's Gilded Age. Whitehall was designed by renowned architects John Carrere and Thomas Hastings, and was completed in 1902 after 18 months of construction. When completed, the New York Herald proclaimed Whitehall as "more wonderful than any palace in Europe, grander and more magnificent than any other private dwelling in the world." Consisting of 75 rooms, it was a wedding present for Flagler's third wife, Mary Lily Kenan Flagler. Whitehall is now the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, and was well worth the price of admission.
