The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum
After checking into the DoubleTree Resort and getting settled in, we left the car behind and hopped the 3:00 hotel shuttle into Key West. Our first stop was The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, located in the heart of Old Town Key West. This was home to Hemingway, one of America’s most honored and respected authors. He lived and wrote here for more than ten years, and produced the vast body of his most important literary work while living in Key West. Clare, Conor and I visited the home and museum with a guided tour, while Suzanne, who had visited the home before, seated herself at the Mojito Bar across the street. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Hemingway's home, and I for one learned a lot about Hemingway, which I might have known once but probably forgot. According to our tour guide, his first three loves were hunting, fishing, and reading, with women a close fourth (he was married four times). Clare and I both purchased books at the museum store to further pique our Hemingway interest and education.
