Savannah, Georgia
Our next stop of the day was the lovely coastal city of Savannah, Georgia, made famous by the New York Times best seller (216 weeks), Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Here, we strolled through shaded squares, surrounded by magnificent townhouses, visited the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, stopped by Flannery O'Connor's childhood home and the First Girl Scout Headquarters, beat the heat and humidity with milkshakes from Leopold's Ice Cream, and finished our tour of Savannah at 30-acre Forsyth Park which is known for its massive oak trees dripping with Spanish moss and its beautiful white fountain. All in all, a very pleasant visit.
